Well, one cartridge of test footage not related to the above came back today from Yale. I think I'm pleased but my movie viewer leads a lot to be desired.
To the rank, to the rank.....
I saw comparison images of a Nikon R-10 and Canon-1014XLS that were posted by Super-8 Booster on another forum and wanted to do my own test since I have both cameras.
The first bit of bad news was when I took the Nikon R-10 out of storage and saw a white mass of pixie dust a quarter inch thick on the outside handle.
I opened up the handle to see the loveliest white coating of battery corrison this side of the midwest. sigh.
I cleaned it off, and then went through a rather tedious process of setting up Three cameras so that I could switch them on and off the same tripod quickly. (this is to ensure that the outside lighting does not change during the test).
I even added step-up rings and step down rings so that I could use the same 85B filter throughout my tests. Everything was going fine until the Nikon just crappped out and would not run.
I kept trying to repeat the test but everytime I had hope the Nikon would run it would not run. I finally gave up and went inside to see if the Nikon just needed some tender loving care.
Since that test failed I thought I would go to plan B and test some lenses for my pin registered Super-8 camera. More foul ups! The cameras has a front lens support plate with four alan screws that portrude from the plate. As a result, I cannot screw the C-mount lenses in because as I turn the lens the alan screws get in the way.
I ended up getting both plates machined so that the screws would be recessed. I had cameras strewn all over the place, filters, adapters, batteries, AND NO TESTING GOT DONE!
But dang it, I do at least have the front plate recessed on my pin registered camera AND the Nikon started to work quite nicely, although it was dark and I never did get to compare the Canon to the Nikon.
